What are Community Dinners?
There are many people in Seattle who are living without: without a community, without a home, without a next meal, without a place to make real relationships. There are certainly places for people to go and get a meal or shelter and some are better than others. But we believe peoples needs are more than just physical. We believe people were made to be in community and engage in real relationships with each other. We believe Community Dinners is one way that we can do this. There are community dinners in many neighborhoods in Seattle and they are bringing those in isolation into community by breaking down barriers and having people come together to share a meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Community Dinners in Seattle are not simply a feeding program or an outreach. Each week all types of people gather around the table together to share stories and develop relationships. There is also a comforting atmosphere of peace and beauty as each week’s meal is accompanied by live music and art. Community Dinners also seeks to minister to people’s spiritual needs, Each week a short message about Jesus from the Gospels is shared and is accompanied by a prayer. This time is entirely optional and not required to receive a meal. But we have found many people enjoy the option to participate.
How can you be involved?
1. Share
Community Dinners exists under the principle that we are ALL in need of community. This is not a "we serve them" type of place. The best thing you can do is come to dinner as a guest. Sit at a table, eat with people and share your name, your story and a smile.
2. Serve.
We need volunteers each week to help with Setup/Tear Down, Food Preparation and Service. Just show up anytime between 4-6:30pm to lend a hand. There are additional opportunities for those with a music or artistic background.
3. Sponsor a meal.
$3.50 buys a PERSON a three-course meal
$28 buys a whole TABLE a three-course meal
$350 buys the whole ROOM a three-course meal
